Hosting an F2T 101 Course

Hosting a F2T 101 Fitness Principles and Practice Course

With the support of their local IAFF affiliate, any department can serve as a host site.

In order to host an F2T 101 Fitness Principles and Practice Course, departments must complete the pre-approval process. To assist in this process, we have created several documents to act as guides and checklists. A checklist summarizing all pre-approval requirements can be found by clicking the link HERE.

The pre-approval process consists of 5 components, each of which is detailed below:

  1. Read and agree to adhere to the IAFF’s COVID-19 Guidelines. More information can be found in the COVID-19 section below.
  2. Complete and submit the F2T 101 Course Request Form.
  3. Meet the minimum hosting department site requirements. For more details, click the link HERE.
  4. Choose your top five course dates from the course calendar displayed below.
  5. Gather the documentation required if your department is applying for an equipment exemption. For more details, click the link HERE.

Once all documentation has been reviewed and approved, you will be contacted with a proposed course date and associated invoice. A $10,000 USD deposit is required in order to secure your course date. Once approved, your status as an eligible host will remain valid for 1 calendar year.

Once you have gathered all necessary documentation, click the button below to being your pre-approval process.

COVID-19 Guidance

The IAFF will, at minimum, follow the COVID-19 guidelines and requirements of the jurisdiction and properties where an F2T 101 course is held.

In hosting an F2T 101 course, host departments agree to adhere to all relevant COVID-19 guidelines and requirements of the jurisdiction and properties where the course is to be held. The host department also recognizes that COVID-19 guidelines are subject to change without notice, and that the IAFF reserves the right to change these requirements at any point prior to, or during the delivery of an F2T 101 course.

Payment of Fees

The base cost of an in-person F2T 101 course is $24,975 USD and includes instruction for up to 25 people. Additional students up to 35 are $999 USD per student.

Once a course date has been proposed, potential hosts will have 30 days to pay a $10,000 USD deposit to secure their date. The remaining balance must be paid in full by the first day of the exam period associated with their course. Any unpaid fees will result in participants being unable to receive their exam results and PFT certificates.

*Additional fees and adjustments to this payment schedule may apply outside of the Continental United States and Canada and to orders with additional equipment purchases*

Equipment

The base cost of an in-person F2T 101 course includes a $5,000 USD equipment package (taxes and shipping are paid by the IAFF). The equipment package contains the minimum equipment required to run a F2T 101 course and is designed to be easily dividable between 3 stations, allowing all 3 to be outfitted with exercise equipment upon conclusion of the course. Details about the equipment package can be found HERE.

Departments that already possess exercise equipment may apply for an equipment exemption. If a host’s equipment meets the necessary requirements, they may be eligible to be exempt from purchasing certain equipment and have their total course fee reduced by the cost of that equipment. Details about the equipment exemption process can be found HERE.

Departments are also able to purchase additional exercise equipment and add it onto their equipment package. Departments will be responsible for paying the base cost of the item plus associated taxes and shipping (this will be added onto the total course fee). Details about purchasing additional equipment can be found HERE.

Although our reasons to be active can be quite per Although our reasons to be active can be quite personal, we are often drawn to and motivated by the stories of others who have transformed their lives with exercise.

Special thanks to the fire fighter from local 1075 for allowing us to share his personal story with the Fit To Thrive community! #bettertogether

“As a firefighter I am constantly surrounded by reminders of why fitness matters. Heavy gear, hard work, and long shifts take a toll on our bodies.

In 2017, I was transferred to a new shift and invited on a morning run. I said sure before asking what I was agreeing to.

It wasn’t an epic run where we lay down Olympic times, but I can honestly say I had never felt so energized. My mind was clear, my body felt great, and I didn’t even start work for another hour.

The physical fitness aspects are all obvious, but what I hadn’t realized at the time was how much I would come to need and crave that run. It is my favourite way to start the day.

The routes vary, the pace is usually set by the slowest person, and there’s usually lots of chatter. Sometimes it’s just a quick mention. Sometimes it takes the full run. But then we go off to our respective stations. I’m physically warmed up but more importantly I’m mentally focused and calm.

I feel the stress and distraction that comes with a busy life is lessened. The calm start provides an opportunity to establish the mood and tone for the day. And that mood and tone carries over to my crew and the public interactions I have. The mental health benefits are incredible.

The fresh start to the day, with a good push of your heart rate has helped me through some very tough times, and that has had a tremendously positive impact on me and my family.”
