IGNITE Training Videos

May 2022: For Duty. For Life.

This video reflects the workshop that would have been delivered had we had the opportunity to visit each installation in person. It was recorded with the Lake Travis Fire Department in Lake Travis, Texas, on February 21, 2018.

June 2022: More Active. More Often.

This first part of this video is from a workshop delivered to a group of health care professionals at the University of Toronto in March 2019. The second part (group exercise session) is a from a workshop delivered at the IAFF’s John P. Redmond Symposium in Nashville, Tennessee on August 20, 2020. The 75+ fire fighters in attendance all participated in the 5-minute activity.

July 2022: Mobility Matters.

This video was filmed during the delivery of the International Association of Fire Fighters’ Wellness-Fitness Assessment Workshop. It highlights the role that mobility plays in our lives and provides an overview of a framework that can be used to establish an individual’s unique mobility needs. The presentation was delivered in July 2018 in Springfield, Missouri to their local fire department.

Leadership Training Summit!

Really enjoyed meeting everyone, sharing updates on Fit To Thrive, and discussing the importance of implementation.

If a program is implemented poorly or even moderately well, its goals are unlikely to be achieved. With high quality implementation, success is much more likely!

1. Describe your objectives – Clarify what you would like to achieve.
2. Assess your needs – Identify factors that influence current attitudes, behaviors, etc.
3. Identify relevant strategies – Describe your steps to effect change.
4. Put the plan into action – Leverage facilitators and implement as intended. 
5. Evaluate progress – Document the process and measure outcomes.

A big thank you to the IAFF’s leadership and everyone involved for their continued efforts to improve fire fighter health and wellness!

…Reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

…Improve feelings of connectedness and social support.

…Increase confidence and emotional control.

…Enhance body image and lower feelings of guilt.

…Improve cognition, attention, and intrinsic motivation.

Tremendous work being done by the Mental Health and Physical Activity Research Centre at the University of Toronto to better understand the link between exercise and mental health.

Be more active, more often, but seek help when needed.
