The Demands-Capacity Model of Kinesiology suggests that every individual needs the capacity (abilities, awareness, motivation, etc.) to meet the demands of their life (physical, psychological, emotional, etc.). This certification workshop will equip students with the knowledge and practical skills to observe and evaluate movement, design exercise sessions, and make exercise matter for a range of populations. An emphasis will be placed on effective communication and facilitating transfer to life outside of the exercise environment.
This workshop involves 3 modules, each touching on multiple factors that will influence the extent to which an exercise program impacts the client’s life outside of the exercise environment. Specific learning objectives include:
Module 1 – Movement Matters! (Learning How to Move)
- Introduce guiding principles to work with any client
- Highlight strategies to observe and evaluate movement
- Distinguish the 7 Key Features, 5 General Movement Patterns, and fundamental movement skills
Module 2 – Performance Redefined! (Exercise Program Design)
- Introduce guiding principles to design exercise sessions for any client
- Re-imagining the F.I.T.T. principle – a 4-step process
- Evaluate the effectiveness of your exercise sessions
Module 3 – Making Exercise Matter! (Effective Communication)
- Introduce guiding principles to implement an exercise session
- Highlight strategies to communicate effectively (verbally and non-verbally)
- Emphasize the role of cooperation and collaboration in creating an active lifestyle
