F2T 110 – Fitness Fundamentals (For Legacy PFTs)

This course is intended for LEGACY PFTs that held an ACE PFT certificate that expired on/before December 31, 2021 and are transitioning to the Fit To Thrive Program as an F2T PFT. If you are unsure if you are eligible, please contact info@fittothrive.ca.

Please take note of the important items below before continuing your registration:

  • To be eligible to earn an F2T PFT certificate, the individual must have been certified as an ACE PFT on or before December 31, 2021.
  • Individuals must complete the F2T transition survey (link HERE) prior to earning their PFT certificate. This can be before completing the F2T110 course.
  • Regardless of when an eligible individual completes the F2T110 course, they will be awarded an F2T PFT certificate with an expiry date of December 31, 2024. They will be required to complete all PFT recertification requirements prior to that date if they would like to renew their PFT status beyond that date. Recertification requirements can be found HERE.

The utility of any exercise program will depend on the target population and how it is administered, promoted and/or performed. For this reason, the ability to think critically is paramount to the success of any fitness professional. Often, ‘it depends’ is the most appropriate response to describe the utility of a particular intervention. However, it is the ability to know why “it depends” that distinguishes exceptional professionals who impact lives from those who design good workouts. This course will highlight several fundamental principles critical to the design and implementation of any exercise program.

How is the Course Delivered

F2T 110 is delivered virtually and takes approximately 4 hours. Attendees will be able to work through the course at their own pace, on their own time.

Attendees will have access to course material until December 31, 2024.

What to Expect from the Course

F2T is an abbreviated version of F2T 101, and will improve attendees’ ability to assess, design, implement and evaluate exercise sessions for fire fighters with varying interests.

A case study will be used to illustrate the process of assessing a client’s goals, their demands and capacity, and designing a relevant exercise intervention.

Physical activity is not a substitute for mental h Physical activity is not a substitute for mental health treatment when needed, but it does play a significant role in our cognitive, social, and emotional well-being.

Just 10 minutes of exercise or physical activity can...

…Reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

…Improve feelings of connectedness and social support.

…Increase confidence and emotional control.

…Enhance body image and lower feelings of guilt.

…Improve cognition, attention, and intrinsic motivation.

Tremendous work being done by the Mental Health and Physical Activity Research Centre at the University of Toronto to better understand the link between exercise and mental health.

Be more active, more often, but seek help when needed.
