It’s commonly stated that static stretching should not be used before an activity because it can impair performance. But does it? And if so, what types of stretching should be avoided? What types of performances are affected? However, if this isn’t the case, could static stretching actually provide benefit? Perhaps stretching should be incorporated into every exercise routine to maximize the potential benefits. Sifting through the seemingly endless ‘truths’ about stretching can lead to confusion and uncertainty when providing recommendations to others. This workshop will examine some of the most controversial claims about stretching, review the science behind each, and provide a series of practical tips to make the most of any stretching routine.
