F2T 217 – Applied Resistance Training Principles

Designing an effective resistance training program requires an appreciation for fundamental principles of biomechanics, exercise physiology, and motor learning. Knowing how people respond and adapt to specific loading parameters, body positions, task and environmental constraints, etc. can mean the difference between creating workouts that make fire fighters tired and those that make them better.  This hands-on workshop will introduce a series of resistance training principles that can influence fire fighter health, injury risk and performance and provide an opportunity for participants to experience them first-hand.

Continuing Education Credits (CECs)

Attendees who currently hold an FPS, PFT or WFA designation within the Fit To Thrive program will be awarded 2 F2T CECs. These CECs will be automatically applied to attendees’ membership profile following the workshop.

Attendees who are not currently members of the Fit To Thrive program will be granted membership as a Wellness-Fitness Ambassador (WFA) and awarded a WFA certificate

Registration for this workshop is currently closed. Please check back soon for future workshop dates!

How is the Workshop Delivered

Our passive mobility reflects the ranges of motion Our passive mobility reflects the ranges of motion we have available and can be influenced by stretching- and mobilization-related activities.

But simply having range of motion available does not mean we will access it and/or have the ability to control it during relevant activities.

In contrast, our active mobility reflects the ranges of motion we are able to access (and control), and can be influenced by our body awareness, motivation, strength, endurance, etc.

Efforts to improve mobility must involve activities that challenge us to both access (via coordination and awareness) and control (via endurance, strength and speed) specific joint positions.

1. Increase the ranges of motion you have AVAILABLE. Take your time!

2. Learn to ACCESS the ranges of motion you have available. Move with purpose!

3. Reinforce active CONTROL of the ranges of motion you have available. Build capacity!
